| Time perception refers to an individual’s ability to perceive and estimate the duration of external objective events, usually including perceptual tendency and perceptual sensitivity.Although a large number of studies have demonstrated that time perception is a universal perceptual phenomenon, the vast majority of studies are from individual situations, and only a few studies have explored the influence of social cues(e.g.,facial expression, eye gaze, facial features, etc.)on time perception. However, these studies are essentially the perception of time in single situations, not the real sense of exploring the perception of time in real Joint action scenarios.Joint action refers to the process in which individuals coordinate their own actions with others to jointly change the environment in a joint situation, which is one of the hot topics in cognitive science in recent years. There are a variety of potential cognitive mechanisms in joint action, such as co-representation and social promotion mechanism. The essential difference between the two lies in the emphasis on whether individuals need to process the inner mental states of others. The former believes that individuals can encode the task information of themselves and others in the same way, while the latter believes that individuals do not need to process the internal state of others, and the mere presence of others is enough to affect individual task performance.Although both mechanisms may exist in joint scenarios, previous joint action paradigms have not systematically examined their respective effects. The possible reason is that previous joint action studies only set joint scenarios and single behavioral indicators, leading to the observed results confusing the effects of the two mechanisms of joint representation and the presence of others. Therefore, this study will separate the above two potential mechanisms through the two perspectives of experimental manipulation and behavioral indicators. In experiment 1,we combined the time dichotomy and joint action paradigm, manipulated the time interval and situation, and explored the individual time perception tendency and sensitivity in joint action. The results show that the subjective equality point in the joint situation is significantly lower than that in the single situation, and the minimum perceptible difference and Weber score in the joint situation are significantly higher than that in the single situation. To elucidate cognitive mechanisms in the joint scenario, experiments 2 and 3 manipulated the potential effects of co-representation and social facilitation to further separate the two mechanisms.Specifically, experiment 2sets up belief scenarios to preserve co-representations and exclude social facilitation. The results showed that the subjective equality point in the belief situation was significantly lower than that in the single situation, and had no significant difference from that in the joint situation. The minimum perceptible difference and Weber score in the belief scenario were significantly lower than those in the joint scenario, and there was no significant difference from the single scenario. In contrast, experiment 3 set up non-target scenarios to preserve social promotion and exclude co-representations.The results showed that the subjective equality points of the non-target scenario were significantly higher than those of the combined scenario, and there was no significant difference between them and the single scenario. The margin of minimum perceptible difference in the non-target scenario was significantly higher than that in the single scenario, but there was no significant difference between the non-target scenario and the combined scenario. The Weber score of the non-target scenario was significantly higher than that of the single scenario, and was not significantly different from that of the combined scenario.Combining the results of experiment 2 and experiment 3,we speculate that the co-representation mechanism affects the subjective equality point, and the social facilitation mechanism affects the minimum perceptible difference and Weber scoreThe above results expand the empirical direction of time perception in the past, from the phenomenon and mechanism level, and provide a theoretical basis for understanding the perceptual process of individuals under the social background, especially the process of time perception... |
