With the development of social culture and technology, the victory of various human rights movements, and the wave of ideological and theoretical waves, sexual minorities have gradually been accepted in mainstream culture and more non-binary gender has appeared in the public cognition.Through the theoretical study of gender identity,we can find that social power intervenes in the construction of gender identity, and society controls the public’s thoughts by disciplining the body and using visual language as a tool. There is no lack of discussion on gender identity in art. While the concept of artists’ creation and the construction and change of gender image are deeply influenced by historical environment and social concept, art works also make social concept and environment more free and open. This paper aims to explore the expression of gender identity issues with non-binary gender, that is,sexual minorities,as the main objects of expression in contemporary photography, and explore the connotation and expression forms of gender identity issues reflected in contemporary photographic works through analysis and interpretation. The forms of expression of these works are diverse and innovative, including works that directly express and complain about gender inequality,as well as exploring and presenting the diversity and complexity of gender identity. These works have played a positive role in promoting and guiding social discussion and reflection on gender identity issues, while also demonstrating the diversity and artistry of contemporary photography.
