Concept And Form: Research On The Development And Evolution Of Film Music

Since the birth of film art,film music has existed in the form of live accompaniment in silent film performances.As the film art has evolved,the forms in which film music is performed have also changed.The central thesis of this paper is the process of development of film music forms and concepts.The different forms of film music bring different effects to the audience,and also play different functions for the expression of the film;different forms of film music are the reflection of people’s conception and pursuit in different periods.In the early days of silent movies,the music was accompanied by some instruments to bring the audience an aural experience.In the process of continuous development afterwards,film music has emerged in various forms of performance,such as orchestra score set performance and specially written soundtrack in the silent film period,and singing,theme song and interlude in the sound film period.This paper takes the development of film music forms and concepts from the birth of film to the present as the main research object;according to the historical classification method,the development of film music is divided into six periods,namely: the budding period,exploration period,starting period,hovering period,development period and prosperity period of film music.This thesis explores the changes in the performance forms of film music in different periods,which reflect the development and evolution of film creation,as well as the changing concepts of creators and audiences.This thesis uses documentary research,case study and inductive methods to analyze the backgrounds,reasons,specific works,and film music forms of each period,draw on the research results of previous scholars,analyze the motives and specific manifestations of the newer forms,explore the development of the concept of film music use,and summarize the development of film music forms in each period.The main object is to analyze the motives and specific manifestations of the newer music forms,to discuss and summarize the development of the concept of film music use,and the performance forms of film music in each period.That is to say,the creator’s creative concept starts from the audience,and returns to the essence of film,reflecting the creator’s comprehensive awareness of film music creation and the trend of expressing aesthetic concepts through film music.
