A Study On The Chase Sequence Of Hollywood Action Movies

"Chase sequence" is a natural complex with both narrative and film appeal.Since the birth of the film,it has frequently appeared in various types of films represented by Hollywood action films.With the process of film history,it has quietly evolved and enriched,making countless audiences linger and help countless authors realize their dreams.Behind the success of 007,Star Trek,Star Wars,Fast & Furious,The Bourne,Mission Impossible and superheroes series,you can always find a chasing picture intertwined with business and art.This picture is used by countless film creators,or to show their artistic wildness or show their business needs.It is cleverly laid at the beginning or the climax of the plot,through the three basic elements of "chaser","chased" and "chase influence",at least one static "paving scene" and spectacle "chase scene" unit are used to create a narrative "attractive" film sequence,so as to promote the film to achieve twice the result with half the effort in exploring the balance between box office and word-of-mouth.The purpose of this thesis is to start from the Hollywood action film text with the most frequent and obvious "chase sequence" structure,analyze its development process,narrative characteristics and audio-visual presentation from the perspective of filmology,explore the reasons for its increasingly frequent and obvious overall structure layout in commercial films,further reveal the laws of relevant film industry and enrich the research of spectacle films,provide reference for relevant film and television production practice.The full text is mainly divided into the following five parts: the introduction discusses the research background and significance of this thesis,summarizes the domestic and international research status,and explains the research ideas and methods.The first chapter focuses on the distinction between "chase scene" and "chase sequence".Based on the definition of "chase sequence",it analyzes the three basic elements of "chase sequence".The second chapter summarizes the development process of Hollywood action film chase sequence by investigating the film history and taking the new Hollywood period as the watershed.The third chapter discusses the narrative characteristics of Hollywood action film chase sequence from the two aspects of narrative form and structure and drama tension decomposition.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the audio-visual presentation of the chase sequence of Hollywood action films.Based on the spectacle film theory and related aesthetics and photography ideas,it tries to reveal more internal laws of the "chase sequence" from the two aspects of viewing and listening.
