| Crime films occupy an important position in the development of Chinese cinema.They take the extreme opposites of sin and punishment,depravity and redemption,disorder and order,as well as other behavioral states and ideologies in human society as their main expressions,with high viewing value and profound thematic connotations.In the past decade,the quantity and quality of crime films in China’s mainland have been continuously improved,with the genre’s narrative features becoming more apparent.At the same time,there is a breakthrough in expressing the theme,exhibiting criminal behavior while conveying the speculation on the complex human nature and the reflection on the chronic diseases of society.On this basis,many female characters have appeared in the film.After changing the single way of portraying female characters in the past,the film’s way of shaping and expressing female images is more prosperous.Women have gradually become the main characters and even the core of the narrative in crime films,which provides massive space for interpreting women’s images.The portrayal of female images in crime films reflects strong gender awareness and reflects the multicultural characteristics of Chinese society during the transition period.While causing the audience to think deeply,crime films also call for a richer expression of female images.Taking the female images in Chinese mainland crime films in the past ten years as the research object,this thesis conducts a new interpretation and research on this type of film dominated by men.This thesis selects 42 influential and representative crime films released in China’s mainland from 2011 to 2021.Aiming to conduct comprehensive and systematic research and analysis of the diverse female images,the thesis discusses the presentation types and shaping methods of female images in crime films.The thesis evaluates the gains and losses of its creation by analyzing its cultural value.The introduction part sorts out the relevant literature and points out the necessity and innovation of the research.After defining related concepts such as crime films,this part sorts out the development of crime films in China’s mainland and the female images.Then,it summarizes its development status and the stage characteristics of its creation.On this basis,the exposition part is developed from the following aspects.The first chapter sorts out the presentation types of female images in Chinese mainland crime films in the past ten years.According to the typical characteristics of crime films,the main female characters are divided into four categories: "female criminals","female victims","female law enforcers",and "female involved persons".Then,this chapter analyzes the presentation characteristics and narrative functions of different types of female images;The second chapter analyzes the shaping strategies of female images in Chinese mainland crime films.This chapter starts from the narration of the film text and interprets how the female images is shaped by the crime films,and explores how the film creates a three-dimensional and vivid female image through narrative space,body rhetoric,audio-visual language,etc.,to convey the complex and profound thematic connotation;The third chapter analyzes the unique gender meaning and value connotation conveyed by the female images in crime films in the past ten years,in combination with the social and cultural context of China during the transition period.In addition,it reflects on the limitations of the construction of female images in the films.Based on respecting the typical characteristics of crime films,this chapter summarizes the inspiration for shaping female images in crime films,hoping to provide a reference for the creation of future films. |
