The harmony of gender relations has a great significance on social harmony. And the research on gender issues is to promote gender equality and the harmonious development of gender relations. The source text is selected from the book Gender Issues by Li Yinhe.Based on the oral history of a small sample(162 people),the book analyzes the most controversial gender issues in China from a feminist perspective.Basing on the translation practice of the source text, the translator took Verschueren’s “Linguistic Adaptation Theory” to analyze specific cases and explored the guidance of this theory to translation practice. This report is composed of four parts. It includes the description of translation task, the description of translation process, the analysis of translation cases and the summary of this translation practice.Verschuere’s “Theory of Adaptation” divides the context into communicative context(mental world, social world and physical world)and linguistic context(contextual cohesion, intertextuality and sequencing),and holds that translators should fully consider contextual factors when they understand the source text and select the target language. Therefore, the translator analyzed the methods of language choice in the target text under the communicative context and language context.Through this translation practice, the translator found that the quality of the translation can be effectively improved by the adaptation of communicative context and linguistic context of the text and flexible choices of different translation methods. The translator expected that this practice report can bring some references to the translation practice of social science texts.
