Kinship terms,as a linguistic marker, reflect the universal kinship relationship in human society and exist in any language in the world. The research record of kinship terms can be found in Erya shiqin, which contains more than 200 ancient kinship terms, divided into four categories: clan, mother party, wife party and marriage. This classification creates a precedent for the classification of Chinese kinship terms. As an indispensable part of the vocabulary system of modern Chinese dialects, dialect kinship terms are frequently used in dialects, because they are affected by many factors such as etiquette, patriarchal clan, ethics, family, region and social form.Different dialects have different ways of addressing the same kind of kinship, and there are certain differences and particularities. The study of kinship terms in Chinese dialects is not only of linguistic value, but also of cultural value.Scholars from all walks of life have been trying to explore the kinship terms in Chinese dialects from diversified perspectives. The author selects a total of 42 dictionaries of various dialects in the Dictionary of Modern Chinese Dialects(sub volume version)as the corpus, which covers nine dialect areas and is very representative. The book contains 320000 local dialect word treaties, which can fully reflect the basic situation of lexical similarities and differences and grammatical function word usage among modern Chinese dialects,so that the vocabulary survey of Chinese dialects no longer lags behind the phonetic survey. This paper mainly investigates and studies the kinship terms of 42 elder dialects through the research methods of sorting statistics, comparative analysis and drawing language map.The first part is the introduction, which mainly expounds the research significance and research background of this paper, and the current research status of kinship terms in modern Chinese, dialect kinship terms and dialect elder kinship terms. The second part takes the main elder kinship terms in modern Chinese as a reference, uses the table to divide the elder kinship terms in 42 dialect dictionaries into great grandparents, grandparents and parents, and then draws a conclusion that they can be distinguished from face-to-face,back and honorific. The third chapter is the main part of the paper, which divides 42 local languages into 9different dialect areas, makes a detailed analysis of their word formation and semantics, and summarizes the similarities and differences between elder kinship terms in different dialects from the analysis results. The forth chapter analyzes the influencing factors of commonness and difference from the aspects of dialectology, geolinguistics, sociolinguistics and so on.The fifth chapter is the conclusion and prospect, which summarizes the discussion of this paper and expounds the existing shortcomings. It also puts forward some humble opinions on the subsequent reprint of the Great Dictionary of modern Chinese dialects,in order to provide a valuable reference for the comprehensive and systematic research of linguistics, sociology and culture of kinship terms in subsequent Chinese dialects.
