A Study On The Appellation Of Kinship In Chengwu Dialect Of Shandong Province

Kinship terms are not only the necessary components of a language’s vocabulary, but also an external symbol of the Han nationality kinship and kinship ideas, which enriched with rich historical and cultural connotation. First, this article investigates 56 kinship terms of Chengwu dialect by dialect research methods. And compare the kinship terms of Chengwu dialect with Mandarin and the surrounding dialects to find the differences in vocabulary, semantics and pragmatics. Second, this article investigates the usage of Chengwu dialect’s kinship terms in the county town, Wenshang village, Nanlu village, Tianji village, Bole village, Dangji village, Zhanglou village, Jiunv village, Goucun village, Baifutu village, Tiangong village, Sunsi village by sociolinguistic research methods to find out its characteristics, changing regulations, influential factors and development trend.Through the investigation, we can get three points. First in the vocabulary, the kinship terms of Chengwu dialect have abundant forms, the relative appellations in composite formation substantially unchanged, the affix and duplicate formation take a larger proportion. Second in semantics, the kinship terms of Chengwu dialect have the characteristics of homographs, synonymous with different figures and strict distinction between face-to-face appellation and narrative appellation. Third in pragmatic, the kinship terms of Chengwu dialect reflect the characteristics of traditional Chinese culture respect for seniority, patriarchal, clear affinities etiguette. In addition, This article analyses the actual usage of the different people in terms of relative appellations. Different relative appellations in use mainly in the characteristics of the elders, the same generation and the younger class appellations actual usage, different generation choose different relative appellations. Visually display the usage of Chengwu dialect’s kinship terms while summarize its characteristics and analys of factors such as age, sex, education, language environment, social psychology.The investigation scope which the writer fixed is based upon the districts and the history of Chengwu. And the writer thinks of every reason to decide which spot to be investigated. The value of this investigation is that it is the microcosmicinvestigation about the kinship terms of this area. The innovation of this article is that the writer tries to use the theory of sociolinguistics, dialect linguistics and lexics to study thekinship terms.
