| This report was based on an English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation practice. The author participated in the 10thWorld Congress on Conductive Education(China)hosted by András Pet?Faculty from November 9 to December 1,2020 as an interpreter.Though the interpreting assignment posed great challenges to the author for its being cross-disciplinary,multi-topic,and remotely online, the task was still smoothly fulfilled with the help of pre-interpreting preparation.Guided by Cognitive Load Theory of John Sweller, this report analyzed real examples from the practice and explored the influence of pre-interpreting preparation on the interpreter’s on-site performance. On the basis of case analysis, the report first stated that preparation for terminology and background information could boost germane cognitive load and increase output fluency and accuracy during interpretation;then the report described the challenges caused by high density of information, syntactic complexity and interpreting anxiety.Four corresponding strategies were proposed to cope with these challenges, namely accumulating solution schema, deverbalization, imagination effect, and worked-example effect, with a view to providing reference for pre-interpreting preparation of simultaneous English-Chinese interpreting and providing help to interpreting learners and researchers. |
