Adequate preparation is of paramount importance to the success of interpreting projects. This is especially true of tour guide-interpreting. It not only requires tour guide-interpreters to be possessed of certain linguistic knowledge and skills, but also demands them of encyclopedic knowledge reserve as well as profound cultural attainment. Meanwhile, they are supposed to combine them together through interpreting preparation. In the current tourism industry, however, the level of tour guide-interpreters differs greatly. Most of them remain in the primary stage of reciting brochures or manuals, and they are reluctant to delve into either "interpreting" or "preparation".This project report is founded on the CEP (Cultural and Educational Program) of2013Asian Youth Games. On the basis of participating in the training session and practical tour guide-interpreting experience, the author analyzes the major issues and difficulties of the whole project, including the high requirements of a wide range of knowledge reserve, large amounts of tourism terms and expressions, ubiquitous culture-loaded information and knotty questions raised by foreign tourists. After detailed research and discussion, the author proposes several solutions to cope with those problems, including simulation of scenario, accumulation of encyclopedic knowledge, application of corresponding tactics and cultivation of flexible-response capability. Then the author reviews the main points of the whole report and draws a conclusion, highlighting the purpose and significance of this report. Meanwhile, the author initiates an appeal to tour guide-interpreters to attach great importance to interpreting and interpreting preparation, thus improving the level and quality of service of tour guide-interpreting.
