When Xia Yan studied in Japan,Western Marxism spread widely all over the world, and the Japanese proletarian movement reached its heyday.Japanese left-wing writers founded literary magazines and translated a large number of Marxist-Leninist literary theories and works.and published many works on behalf of the proletariat, which set off the best part of the Japanese proletarian left-wing movement.Xia Yan came into contact with Japanese proletarian culture through the campus proletarian community, the creation society circle of friends and the left-wing cultural circle of friends, and personally participated in the proletarian movement in Japan. After being nurtured by Marxist thought, proletarian cultural thought sprouted. The change of subject consciousness promoted the change of Xia Yan’s road of life and literature, which made him grow from a progressive youth to a Marxist and proletarian writer. In the aspect of literary creation,Japan provided Xia Yan with abundant literary soil, and Japanese experience became the material and resource of his literary creation.Various life experiences had an impact on his inner feelings, personal state and ideology, and promoted the gradual transformation of his personal thought.and affected the style and content of his literary creation.Contacts with Guo Moruo,Creative Society and Japanese left-wing writers not only promoted Xia Yan’s proletarian literary theory, but also stimulated his creative enthusiasm, which gradually changed him from a "melancholy" to a "eulogizer".His writing style has also changed from early "romanticism" to "revolutionary realism".His work experience in Japanese theatre exposed him to left-wing drama and laid the foundation for his later left-wing drama and film career. The Japanese experience has exerted a far-reaching influence on Xia Yan’s thought, creation and life.
