| The book Why Boys Don’t Talk and Why It Matters—A Parent’s Survival Guide to Connecting with Your Teen mainly discovers the taciturnity of boys,what it indicates and how to explain the meanings behind the silence,and the book emphasizes the significance of keeping connected to boys as they grow into adolescence.The translator chooses to translate the first four chapters of Why Boys Don’t Talk and Why It Matters—A Parent’s Survival Guide to Connecting with Your Teen,and she hopes its translation is conducive to contemporary young parents and gives them more inspirations and advice in cultivating young boys.Based on the linguistic and cultural differences between Chinese and English,and under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory,the translator analyzes this translation practice mainly at three levels: lexical,syntactic and textual level.At the lexical level,she analyzes it from three aspects: culture-specific words and expressions,four-character expressions and the connotative meaning of some specific words and expressions,so as to ensure that the meaning of the words is clear and consistent with the reading expectation of the target readers.At the syntactic level,in response to the differences between English and Chinese expressions,she gives an addition and adjustment of word order to solve the problems in the source text,in an effort to improve the readability of the text as well as the accuracy of the information conveyed.At the textual level,the translator mainly studies the translation of the cohesion between sentences and paragraphs.Through this translation of informative texts,the translator has studied the translation strategies and skills of such texts.And in this practice,the translator’s translation skills have been further improved,and she hopes to provide references and experiences of similar translation work. |
