With the sustained development of economic globalization,the economic and cultural exchanges between China and other countries all over the world have been increasingly frequent.Therefore,publicity materials play a vital and influential part in introducing China to the world,and their translation can act as the role of bridge to promote exchanges among China and the other members.The translation of publicity materials,in a narrow sense,includes the translation of a variety of media coverage,government documents and reports,publicity signs,the introduction of enterprises and institutions and other translations of practical texts.This paper discusses the translation of the publicity material of local government,whose purpose is to promote the development and investment in Hubei province.According to Newmark's text types,the local government publicity materials are of a text type which is both vocative and informative.Consequently,the author believes that communicative translation and semantic translation in Newmark's translation theory can be adopted so as to achieve the purpose of communicative effects and increase readers'acceptance.The paper is a report on the English translation of Investment Guide of Hubei Province.Consisting of a total of more than 40,000 Chinese characters,the text addresses the current development in Hubei province,the trend of industrial orientation and future investment in various regions of the province,and the industrial orientation,preferential policies as well as investment costs.People from overseas who intend to participate in the investment in Hubei province can truly and objectively learn the development status of Hubei in various aspects.And more importantly,it intends to achieve good communicative effects among foreign investors and promote the foreign investment and business opportunities in Hubei province.This paper is a report on the English translation of Investment Guide of Hubei Province,guided by Newmark's communicative translation and semantic translation theory,and it discusses the background of translation,the translation procedure as well as case study from the aspects of words,sentences as well as textual level.In the whole process of translation of this text,first,the author did some preparation such as contacted the agent in order to discuss this translation task,organized the translation team as well as got familiar with the publicity text and requirements for its translation.After that,the author began to do the work,which strictly followed the steps of accurate understanding of the source text and presentation of the source text.Finally,the author did proofreading in the aspect of grammar,the translation of numbers and certain proper name after finishing the translation.Then,the work was handed in to the agent to ask for further proofreading and feedback,and it got revision and improvements for several times.
