Wandering In The Transcendental World

China’s unique view of heaven and man,which recognizes the world and internal individuals,has been associated with mountains and rivers since ancient times and is reflected in the spirit of mountains and rivers.This tradition still deeply shapes our view of the landscape and even our interpretation of the external world and self cognition.In the long historical process of Chinese civilization,landscape has been endowed with sanctity and transcendence as the carrier of natural philosophy.It has traces to follow in any traditional Chinese literati art form.Since photography was introduced into China in the 19 th century,it has a new visual culture and politics,as well as two dimensions of aesthetic attributes.After being endowed with the function of aesthetic attribute,photography has evolved multiple paths in different periods by recalling the tradition and undertaking the spirit of landscape,and gradually forming a unique expression of this cultural consciousness.These different interpretations present the cognition and viewing of landscape in today’s Chinese photography.The epistemology of landscape spirit and the view of time and space contain the way of viewing landscape.This paper aims to sort out the context of Chinese traditional landscape view;This paper analyzes the similarities between the viewing of landscape and photography in the traditional literati art form,and compares it with the concept of Western landscape;The view of landscape can supplement the concept of Western landscape photography and provide another way of viewing photography;And try to ask the meaning of landscape today,and explore how the landscape spirit shapes the core of viewing in the context of contemporary Chinese photography.
