Proverbs are the summing up of people’s experience and wisdom in production and life. Both Chinese and Uzbek people have created a large number of colorful proverbs.Among them, animal proverbs are simple, vivid and profound, which have great research value.A comparative study of animal proverbs between the two countries and analysis of the similarities and differences in form and content will help deepen the cognition of Chinese characteristics, enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples and promote friendly exchanges between the two peoples.Based on Wen Duanzheng’s Dictionary of Xinhua Proverbs,260 animal proverbs are selected in this paper.Based on O ’Zbek Xalq Maqollari,245 Uzbek proverbs were selected. On this basis,a database is established and a comparative analysis is made. The proverbs of the two countries are similar in form and content. In terms of the number of sentences, the proverbs of both countries are dominated by double sentences, accounting for more than 94%.From the perspective of semantic relations, there are eight types of complex sentences, such as juxtaposition and sequential inheritance. From the point of view of rhetoric devices, they are good at using metaphors, personification and other figures of speech; From the animal image, cattle, horses, pigs, sheep and other common animals tend to be the same. From the perspective of cultural significance, the people of the two countries share some common value judgment and aesthetic orientation, such as loving motherland and hometown, praising people and heroes, encouraging diligence and trustworthiness, unity, and belittling laziness and deception.Chinese and Uzbek belong to different language families.Chinese is a monosyllabic language, while Uzbek is a polysyllabic language, resulting in the difference in the rhyme of proverbs. The Chinese word order is SVO,and the Uzbek word order is SOV,so Chinese proverbs often omit the subject, and Uzbek proverbs often omit the predicate verb.Due to the differences in historical background, religious belief, geographical environment and national tradition between China and Uzbekistan, some animals have different aesthetic orientations, which are reflected in animal proverbs.
