The line is a basic element that always appear in a painting, and it is also an angle that cannot be ignored when audience is trying to understand an artwork. From flat painting to space art, lines have always existed in different forms, playing an indispensable role.Especially after entering the new art era, artists no longer take realism as the main purpose, and the role played by the line in the work has also been changed. It has a nonnegligible role and influence on the transmission of emotions in the picture.Even in an environment where art works are constantly replacing external art forms and creative media, lines have not disappeared, but continue to exist in various forms of art works in new forms. This thesis takes the works of Lucio Fontana and Alexandre Calder as examples to study the role played by the line in modern art and later works of art,the role it plays, the emotions it contains, and the midline of changes in the art form the changes and developments produced by the face. This article explains the form and significance of lines in modern art and post-modern art, especially how lines are transformed into new art forms after artistic creation enters the period of integrated materials and space installations.Compare and explore the changing external and unchanging core of lines in the development of art.Neither Fontana nor Calder’s creative purpose was to be unconventional, but the limitations of the existing methods at the time, the emergence of emerging technologies, and the themes they wanted to express determined that they should move forward.Because the true expression of desire is the core of creation, rather than immutable or catering to fashion. All means and expressions are based on real desires.Fontana and Calder are trying to make their works from two-dimensional to three-dimensional,looking for a bridge that can help artists break the shackles in artistic creation and enter a new creative generation."Line" is an indispensable role in this process. With the cooperation of suitable media, the line helps the artist to complete the goal of moving from a plane to a three-dimensional and an idea into the real world.
