Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism And Its Contemporary Reflections

Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism is an important part of Marxist philosophy.It reveals the general law of human historical development and its functional principle.However,for a long time,due to the unclear definition of the concept,the lack of full display of the theoretical connotation,and the difficulties encountered in socialist practice,this theory has been distorted and criticized at different levels.These circumstances require us to clearly define the concept of Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism,fully display the rich connotation of this theory,and then respond to various critical views.In addition,Marx’s philosophical purpose of changing the world presupposes the changeability of the world,while the practical philosophy aimed at changing the world must clarify the relationship between theory and practice.It should not only explain that the theory of determinism is not contradictory to the changeability of the world,but also explain how Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism guides socialist practice.Taking "what is Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism-the relationship between theory and practice-the unity of Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism and socialist practice" as the main logic,this paper is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction,which defines the background and significance of the topic.Taking "determinism","historical determinism" and "Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism" as the theme,this paper investigates the research status of academic circles at home and abroad,summarizes the literature,finds the existing problems,and determines the research starting point and research space.The second part defines historical determinism and its related concepts,and examines the emergence and change process of historical determinism in the history of philosophy.How to clarify the morphological evolution of historical determinism in western history has laid an ideological foundation for the formation of Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism.The third part elaborates the formation process and connotation of Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism based on Marx’s text.It shows the structure of Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism from the horizontal and vertical dimensions,that is,the thought that the contradictory movement of production mode is the general law of historical development and that society is an organism with the interaction of multiple complex factors.Finally,it shows Engels’ further development of Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism in his later years.The fourth part mainly analyzes the dual functions and difficulties of Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism.It points out that Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism has the dual functions of explaining the world and changing the world,shows all kinds of criticism against the theory itself and the views of blaming the failure of practice on the theory,and responds respectively,especially to explain the difference between theory and practice.The fifth part makes a contemporary reflection on Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism.On the one hand,it discusses whether theory and practice can be unified;On the other hand,it expounds that Marx’s Materialistic Historical Determinism is a practical philosophy aimed at changing the world,which unifies theory and socialist practice through practical wisdom.
