"Timbre" is "the color of sound",everything in the world has its own unique sound color. How to use different performance processes in performance to add color to the expression of timbre,so as to interpret different musical images is a direction that this paper focuses on.The author will take Rachmaninoff’s "Sonata for Cello and Piano in g Minor Op.19" as an example to analyze the relationship between performance processing and timbre expression. This article is divided into three parts: the first part is first a brief explanation of Rachmaninoff’s life background and the background of the creation of "Sonata for Cello and Piano in g minor Op.19",and then uses "timbre" as the starting point to analyze the melodic trend and spectral markings in the relevant movements of the thesis work,so as to obtain the factors affecting the change of timbre;the second part is to combine the distribution of breath and the techniques of the left and right hands to carefully analyze the changes in "timbre" in different playing styles,so as to interpret different musical images,at the same time, starting from the perspective of chamber music,we can promote the expression of timbre by exploring the way of integrating the timbre of cello and piano.
