On The Expression Of Poetry In Piano Work

Medtner was one of the representative musicians in Russian music of the early 20th century.His music was characterized by the powerful expression of Russian music and the core of German music,his music was characterized by the pursuit of melodies and the extension and reconciliation of classical music theories,and his music become the inheritance and continuation of romantic essence in 20 century.Piano sonata in e minor "night wind" completed in Medtner 31 years old,is the utmost one of all his sonatas,which contains the hard technologies and challenges In this thesis the sonata "night wind" s the research object,the author explores the link between Medtner’s music and quoted poem,and then discusses how to reasonably express the poetry and emotion in this sonata when we playing.Research shows,Medtner maintained his personal style without losing the essence of romantic,the sonata "night wind" not only contain Medtner’s unique musical vocabulary,but also show the positive influence from earlier musician.The sonata is a vivid depiction of quoted poems and a perfect expression of poetry.When playing,performer need to try to find profound content in music and present it with a holistic and infectious way.The thesis consists of two chapters.The first chapter summarizes the background of the music with the composer’s life and aesthetic viewpoint and composition characteristics,and then we can have a clear understanding of Medtner’s characteristics in comparing with other composers’writing styles.The second chapter analyzes each part of poem and sonata respectively,and demonstrates the poetry that the composer wants to convey by the spectrum and the comparison between poem and music,then author elaborates personal viewpoint with how to play this sonataIn the conclusion,the author summarizes the experiences and conclusions of this study,in order to explore similar problems by making analogy.
