A Study On The Daily Life Of Historians In The Republic Of China

As an important part of modern intellectuals,historians of the Republic of China play an important role in the research process of Chinese historiography and the development of history.Through studying abroad,setting up research institutions and taking positions in universities,historians in this period gradually built a network of friends,and jointly promoted the institutionalization of historical research institutions and the professional development of historical departments in universities.In the process,they strengthened the sense of community and formed a group of historians.In addition to analyzing the background conditions and sociological attributes of the professionalization process of 88 historians,this paper makes an in-depth study of the daily life of historians from three dimensions: occupation,material life and social activities.During the period of the Republic of China,under the national crisis and domestic study abroad trend influence,the historian initiation historical change ideas,after the western scientific thought study,modern historians gradually formed a new historical concept,and further promote historical institution practice activities,thus to promote the professional course of modern historians.As a new professional group in the transition period of modern times,historians take on the dual mission of academic research and teaching.On the one hand,they actively change the old historiography by using above-ground and underground materials;on the other hand,they promote the continuation and expansion of the historiography research group by training historical talents and spreading historical thoughts as university teachers.In addition,in terms of material life and social contacts,the historians of this period showed the modernization characteristics of the integration of Chinese and Western culture.Their income sources were diverse,and their income level was in the upper and middle class of the society as a whole.In terms of life style,they showed the combination of tradition and modernity.A series of social activities not only built a new communication platform with newspapers and magazines as the main body,but also strengthened the sense of community,and further promoted the scientific process of historical research.By studying the daily life of historians of the Republic of China,this paper tries to summarize the formation and characteristics of the professionalization of historians of the Republic of China as well as its influence and significance on the reform and development of modern historiography.At the same time,it also enriched the research content of historians of the Republic of China and deepened the understanding of historians,so it has certain realistic value.
