Veils Of Distortion: How The News Media Warps Our Minds (Chapter 1) English-Chinese Translation Practice Repor

The selected text of the translation practice report is the first chapter “Veils of Distortion” of the journalism and communication book Veils of Distortion:How the News Media Warps Our Minds,which was written by John Zada.The source text is an innovative study on journalism and communication and has significant academic value for the study of news media.The characteristics,causes and processes of fake news as well as the influence of fake news on people are discussed in this chapter.The translation strategies in words,sentence and text were analyzed according to the linguistic characteristics of informative texts in this translation report.And the relative translation strategies and methods are summarized.First of all,the methods of conversion,concrete abstract nouns and the addition of category words are adopted to translate the abstract nouns.Secondly,for the treatment of dashes in the source text,the relative translation strategies are used,including substitution,retention and transposition.Finally,in terms of discourse,the methods of reference and conjunction are discussed.It is hoped that this report can shed some light on translation in journalism and communication text.
