| In recent years, the styles of zheng compositions have become more and more diverse.Musicians have been drawing on the musical elements of various regions to create many excellent zheng works with different local styles for the development of the guzheng. These works have enriched the diversity of guzheng compositions and contributed to the emergence of modern guzheng compositions as well as to the diversification of guzheng compositions. In order to grasp these different styles of guzheng works,it is necessary to understand not only the background of the compositions, but also the musical characteristics and performance techniques of the pieces. In this paper,we focus on a guzheng piece with strong Arabic musical elements,The Desert Walk, composed in 2010 by Mr Wei Jun,a professor of guzheng at the Xi’an Conservatory of Music and one of the main founders of the Qin Zheng Society in Shaanxi,in order to gain a better understanding of how to play the piece and to grasp its connotations. This paper consists of an introduction,a chapter on the development of Arabic music,a chapter on the assimilation of Arabic music elements in "The Desert Walk",a chapter on the techniques of playing Arabic music elements in "The Desert Walk",and a conclusion. The following is a brief overview of the main elements of each section. The first chapter gives a detailed introduction to the history of Arabic music and its musical characteristics. The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of the piece, taking "The Desert Walk" as an example, and discusses the use of Arabic musical elements in the zheng piece "The Desert Walk" by examining the background of its composition, the analysis of its form, and the way of string setting used in the composition. The third chapter further demonstrates that the zheng piece is a modern zheng piece with strong Arabic musical elements through the analysis of the guzheng techniques used in the piece. The concluding section is a summary of the paper and the author’s own perceptions. |
