| Body image satisfaction is an index for individuals to evaluate their satisfaction with body image.Previous studies have found that more than 80% of female college students are dissatisfied with their bodies, and in modern society, men perceive the pressure of needing good appearance is no less than women, and male body image dissatisfaction is becoming more and more common.Low body image satisfaction will not only leads to low self-esteem,negative self-concept and depressive mood, but also is a strong predictor of eating disorders and is significantly associated with restrained eating and bulimia nervosa. Therefore,it is of great significance to explore the influencing factors and mechanism of college students’ body image satisfaction to reduce the negative impact of low body image satisfaction.Based on the triple impact model and positive psychology theory, this study explores the influence of passive social networking site use on college students’ body image satisfaction,as well as the mediating role of media image internalization and the moderating role of body appreciation.500 college students from three colleges and universities in Heilongjiang and Shandong provinces were selected as subjects by convenient sampling method.Passive social networking site use scale, body image state scale, internalization score scale of Social cultural Attitude Questionnaide-3 about appearance and body appreciation Scale-2 were adopted.Passive social networking site use, body image satisfaction, media image internalization and body appreciation were measured. The results show that:(1)There is no significant difference in the use of passive social networking sites by gender, student origin, grade and major of college students;(2)There is no significant difference in body image satisfaction of college students in grade and major, but there is significant difference in gender and student origin.Specifically, the body image satisfaction of male college students is significantly higher than that of female college students, and the body image satisfaction of college students from urban areas is significantly higher than that of college students from rural areas.(3)The media image internalization of college students has no significant difference in gender, student origin and grade, but there is a significant difference in majors.Specifically, the media image internalization of college students majoring in arts and sports is significantly higher than that of students majoring in arts, science and engineering, and there is no significant difference between the media image internalization of college students majoring in arts, science and engineering.(4)There are no significant differences in the body appreciation of college students in terms of gender, grade and major, but there are significant differences in the place of origin.Specifically, the body appreciation level of college students from urban areas is significantly higher than that of students from rural areas.(5)Students’ passive social networking site use, body image satisfaction and media image internalization were significantly correlated;passive social networking site use, media image internalization and body image satisfaction were significantly negatively correlated;passive social networking site use and media image internalization were significantly positively correlated;Body appreciation was negatively correlated with media image internalization, positively correlated with homologous image satisfaction, and not significantly correlated with passive social networking site use.(6)Media image internalization plays a mediating role between passive social networking site use and body image satisfaction.Passive social networking site use positively affects media image internalization and then negatively affects body image satisfaction of college students.(7)Body appreciation plays a moderating role in the influence of media image internalization on body image satisfaction of college students. With the increase of body appreciation level, the negative influence of media image internalization on body image satisfaction of college students became weaker. At the same time, the mediating effect of media image internalization was weakened, indicating that there was a moderated mediating effect. |
