The Research On The Governance Of Roman North African Provinces In The Early Roman Empire | | Posted on:2024-01-22 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Y C Fu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2555306917486894 | Subject:World History | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | As an important transit point between Europe,Asia and Africa,the North African region held an extremely important strategic position.From the time of the Punic Wars in the middle of the 3rd century B.C.,Roman power gradually penetrated the region and conquered local Berbers as well as other aborigines.At the beginning of Roman governance of North Africa,it was primarily based on military defense of the region.During its nearly 500-year rule,this region and Roman civilization constantly collided and integrated,which promoted the comprehensive reform of North Africa.Especially in the context of Pax Romanica,the process of Romanization in North Africa was remarkable,involving politics,economy,culture,social life and many other fields.Its influence was deeply imprinted in the historical development process of North Africa.This paper consists of two parts.The first part is the introduction,according to the data collected at present,combs the current research situation domestically and abroad,analyzes the significance of the topic,innovation and research methods,and expounds the research status of provincial governance in North Africa in the early Roman Empire.The second part is the main body of the thesis.The first chapter discusses the general situation of the development of Rome in North Africa during the Republic period,and analyzes the strategic significance of the establishment of North African provinces for the improvement of the border governance system of the empire from the perspective of the establishment of provincial organizations,military garrisons and the formation of large estates.Chapter two discusses the urban construction in North Africa in the early imperial period from the perspective of urban social history,and discusses the promoting role of elite politics in the development of North African cities from the perspective of the development of euertetism and the implementation of the patronage system.The third chapter introduces the agriculture and animal husbandry management in early Roman North Africa,and analyzes the reasons for the prosperity and development of agriculture and animal husbandry in early Roman North Africa,starting from the promulgation of agricultural law and the regulation of agricultural and animal husbandry production relations.Chapter four mainly discusses the Romanization of religion and education in the provinces of North Africa,and analyzes the far-reaching influence of Roman rule on the cultural development of North Africa by summarizing the specific manifestations of Romanization in the region. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | The Roman Empire, North Africa, Romanization, Provincial governance | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
