The Republic of China was an exceptional period in the history of Chinese calligraphy, when the wave of "Western learning to the east" led to a significant change in the environment in which calligraphy existed, causing a huge impact on the practical roots on which it was founded.Even so,calligraphy has continued to move forward in spite of the challenges, demonstrating the great vitality of this ancient art.As an important part of calligraphy, the clerical script also continued to evolve in a complex social environment. The clerical script of this period continues the background of the calligraphy world since the Qing Dynasty, but also incorporates the new era of the Republic of China, and contains the unique cultural connotation of calligraphy itself. The entire text is divided into three parts. The first part examines the background of the development of the Republican Official Script from three perspectives: the change of the calligraphic environment, the residue of the late Qing Dynasty monuments, and the excavation of ancient Official Script, and briefly outlines the Republican Official Script from the perspectives of aesthetic style and calligrapher groups. The second part is the main part of the dissertation.During the Republican period, there were many famous calligraphers, and the style of clerical script was diversified. On the one hand, some calligraphers were influenced by the late Qing Dynasty monuments, adhering to the Han script and taking the old path of the ancient, such as Hu Hanmin,Feng Wenfeng and Ma Gongyu. On the other hand, there are some calligraphers who are not satisfied with mere imitation of the Han monuments, but on the basis of their predecessors, blend the clerical script with other calligraphic styles to further seek and strengthen the innovation and breakthrough of their personal style, and have achieved great success. For example,Wu Changshuo,Zeng Xi,Qi Baishi and others represented the "mixed type of seal script and clerical script";Zheng Xiaoxu,Yang Du,Huang Bao Wu,Jing Hengyi and others represented the "mixed type of clerical script and clerical script";Li Ruiqing,Hu Xiaoshi,Lv Fengzi and others represented the "mixed type of clerical script and clerical script".The "clerical-cursive type" represented by Li Ruiqing,Hu Xiaoshi and Lv Fengzi. The exploration of these calligraphers in the fusion of calligraphic styles is still relevant today. The third part through the systematic combing and summary of the Republic of China clerical script, explore the significance of the development of the Republic of China clerical script;summary of the Republic of China clerical script creation experience, and based on contemporary,to contemporary calligraphers clerical script creation to inspiration. In conclusion, although the Republican Clerical Script has a tendency to be ancient,it has many new aspects in terms of visual effect and aesthetic orientation. It has not only enriched the style of clerical script, expanded the expression space of clerical script creation, but also to a certain extent promoted the development of other calligraphic styles in the direction of diversification and high level, which has irreplaceable academic value and significance.
