Abstract/Summary:
At present, artists are increasingly emphasizing subjective expressions and tend to convey certain symbolic meanings through flat picture representations. The works of Euan Uglow always show the beauty of new composition of simplicity, stillness, and simplicity, which originates from his "rational first" thinking of painting. In this paper,we study the painter’s artistic style, his paintings, his painting habits, his studio environment and other aspects of the entire creative process, summarize and analyze his artistic style and artistic language, and strive to explore the rational spirit and rational thinking in his paintings from multiple perspectives.Uglow’s artistic style is influenced by his predecessors, while incorporating his own aesthetic sensibilities.Uglow’s artistic style is influenced by his predecessors, while incorporating his own aesthetic sensibilities. He is very demanding about the measurement of the objects he depicts, using the language of geometric forms to generalize the objects, while using high purity colors and flat painting techniques to depict the objects, and deliberately retaining the traces of measurement in the picture, these rational painting methods and his rational thinking and rational spirit throughout the painting process have made his unique and distinctive artistic style and artistic language. In the first chapter, the paper first introduces what is meant by "rationality" in painting, and in the second chapter,it explores the evolution and formation of Ungerloh’s painting style in the context of his time and the influence of many previous artists and various artistic trends on Ungerloh. The third chapter analyzes Uglow’s rigorous and rational working attitude, his empirical measurement of objects, his formal language of geometric generalization of forms, and his unique use of color to illustrate Uglow’s "rational first" thinking in painting. The last chapter discusses the influence of Uglow’s "rational" approach to painting on me,and the indepth understanding and integration of "rationality" in Uglow’s painting with his own creative practice.
