| With the development of multimodal discourse analysis,the form of expression not only depends on the text itself,but also other symbols,such as image,sound,animation,etc.They can convey meaning just like text,and gradually receive attention.At the same time,it is clearly stated in the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 edition)that we should make use of various curriculum resources to promote teaching quality in English teaching and learning.So,multimodal PPT,with its rich and diverse teaching resources,has played an important role in English teaching and attracted wider attention from society.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to analyze and study the multimodal PPT presentation in junior high school English teaching.Based on the Multimodal Discourse Analysis Theory,Social Semiotics and Visual Grammar,this study conducts a survey on the application of multimoodal PPT in junior high school English teaching.By analyzing 60 PPT presentations from Qinzhou No.2 Middle School,conducting a questionnaire survey among 34 junior high school English teachers and interviewing among five teachers,this study tries to provide answers for the three questions: 1.What is the current situation of using multimodal PPT in junior high school English class? 2.What is the English teachers’ overall perception about multimodal PPT? 3.What are the affecting factors of producing multimodal PPT for junior high school English teaching?The result shows that: Firstly,among the four basic PPT genres,promoting genre is used more than the other three types.and among the common modes,text mode is the most used in PPT presentation,followed by text-picture mode.In the part of compositional function,the composition of the picture on the top and text at the bottom and the composition of the text on the top and picture at the bottom appear more frequently than the other two.Secondly,English teachers have a good understanding of PPT genres,modes and modes’ functions.even if they are not familiar with the definitions of modality and multimodality.Finally,the biggest and common problem the English teachers encounter in making and using PPT presentation is the poor operation about multimedia technology,which affects the perfect of PPT presentation made by them.So,certain learning content doesn’t exist in PPT presentation as they wish,such as video,animation,etc.and the English teachers hope to receive relevant training.In addition,according to the above research findings,this paper puts forward two suggestions.First,as for making best use of all the modes in PPT presentation,the English teachers have to pay attention to the new changes and attach importance to the all kinds of modes in the meaning representation.Second,as for improving the teachers’ skills of designing and making multimodal PPT presentation,the corresponding methods can be considered from three aspects of pedagogy,technological guidance and teachers’ efforts. |
