| Under the background of quality-oriented education,it is especially essential to foster students’ English core competence and comprehensive language ability.English core competence emphasizes the language ability,learning ability,culture awareness and thinking quality.The current situation of teacher-oriented,scores-based teaching methods conflicts with the trend of English core competence.Elementary education should pay attention to the dominant position of students in learning.The study of English Unit Instructional Design in primary school from the perspective of Big Idea Theory is in line with the trend of the development of English core competence.It is of great significance to change the current teaching method,improve teachers’ ability of teaching design.Therefore,this thesis aims to form the design pattern of the Unit Instruction by using the theory of Big Idea and use the theory into the whole process of English Unit Teaching Design.This thesis also aims to use the practical teaching examples,which can show the value of the Big Idea directly and provide the theoretical and practical reference to the English teacher.By collecting and analyzing the thesis,it concludes that there are three core questions of the research:(1)What is the current situation of English Unit Teaching Design?(2)What is the problems and reasons of the current situation of English Unit Teaching Design?(3)How to change the current situation of English Unit Teaching Design by using the Big Idea Theory?The research includes six parts,as follow:The first part is introduction.It mainly includes the background of topic-selection,research reason,research significance,research methods and literature review.The second part is concept definition and theoretical basis.The literature research method is used to collect and classify the current literature of the theory of big idea and the unit instructional design,which aims to determine the background and meaning of the research,choose the key point of the thesis.The third part is the analysis of current situation.The questionnaire and interviewing method are used to find out the current situation of primary school English teachers’ cognition and practical ability of Unit Instructional Design and the attitude to apply the theory of Big Idea to the whole process of English Unit Teaching Design.The forth part is the analysis of problems and reasons.This part try to sum up the problems of the actual teaching process of primary school English teacher.The problems as follow:(1)Lacking of learning of Big Idea theory;(2)Lacking of learning of English core competence;(3)Poor ability of English Unit Instructional Design.And then analyze the reason,which aims to provide the actual basis to English Unit Instructional Design in Primary School from the Perspective of Big Idea Theory.The reasons as follow:(1)The restriction of school;(2)Teacher misunderstand the role of themselves;(3)The phenomenon of exam-oriented education;(4)Teacher lack of the ability of English Unit Instructional Design.The fifth part is the improved strategy.It based on the problem and the reason of Unit Instruction,the thesis aims to explore the design frame of Unit Instruction based on the Big Idea Theory,which includes:(1)Holding Big Idea to determine the thinking of Unit Instruction;(2)Extracting Unit Big Idea to enrich the value of English Unit Instructional Design;(3)Basing on Big Idea to build up the relation of discourse;(4)Focusing on Big Idea to lead English Unit Instructional Design.The last part is conclusion.It mainly includes research conclusions,deficiencies and prospects.The thesis will bring the Big Idea Theory to the whole process of English Unit Teaching Design by adding specific teaching case,which can make the research more visual and real.The thesis aims to provide Unit Instructional advice to primary school English teacher and enhance the ability to design Unit Instruction by using the Big Idea Theory. |
