V.S.Naipaul,Nobel Laureate in Literature 2001,is an Indian-born British writer. An important milestone in Naipaul’s early career was A House for Mr Biswas, with which he gained worldwide attention. In this novel, the natural landscape is an important clue throughout the story, and the portrayal of the main women in the work forms a unique internal connection with the description of the natural environment.Up to now,A House for Mr.Biswas has been interpreted by scholars at home and abroad mostly from the perspective of postcolonial theory, narratology and cultural identity. The female images and the description of the natural landscape in this work should not be ignored. Therefore, based on the theory of ecofeminism, this thesis analyze the oppression of nature and women under patriarchy from the perspective of the relationship between man and nature, man and society,as well as men and women.Revealing three crises, namely, environmental pollution ecocrisis, female survival crisis, and female identity crisis, this thesis probes into Naipaul’s complex view of women and unique view of ecology, and concludes that only by resisting the oppression of anthropocentrism and patriarchy can ecological balance be achieved.People strive for ecological balance in order to achieve a world where men and women, human and society,as well as human and nature coexist harmoniously.Studying Naipaul’s works from the perspective of ecofeminism can broaden Naipaul’s new research horizon and provide a broad humanistic foundation for the sustainable development of society.
