Ouyang Xuan Prose Research

Ouyang Xuan was a famous Neo-Confucianist,historian and writer of the Yuan Dynasty.He was born in a Confucian family,and the family literati came out in great numbers.Influenced by his family,Ouyang Xuan inherited the good tradition of Confucianism and Taoism,and devoted his life to the study of Confucianism and Taoism.He actively promoted and disseminated Neo-Confucianism,maintained traditional Confucian and Taoist ethics,succeeded Confucian and Mencius Taoism,and inherited Cheng Zhu’s school of thought,which effectively promoted the development of Cheng Zhu’s Neo-Confucianism into the "official school" of the Yuan Dynasty.As a historian,Ouyang Xuan,during his more than 40 years as an official,focused on writing imperial edicts,writing books and writing histories.made a great contribution.As a writer,Ouyang Xuan has worked tirelessly and created a large number of poems,but most of them were lost due to the war.He had close contacts with the literary giants of the same dynasty,such as Yu Ji and Jiezisi,and even reached the highest position in the Yuan Dynasty in his later years.Ouyang Xuan is famous all over the world for his essays.His essays have the characteristics of the prosperous and prosperous times in the mid-Yuan Dynasty.His prose creation style and ideological implication provide a guide for the literary creation of the literati in the middle and late Yuan Dynasty..This paper takes Ouyang Xuan’s prose as the research scope,based on relatively complete literature materials,using literature research method,text reading method,social and historical criticism,to systematically and comprehensively analyze his prose works,and discuss his ideological content and artistic characteristics.It provides valuable research results for the special study of Ouyang Xuan’s prose and the study of Yuan Dynasty’s prose.This paper is divided into five chapters,the first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research purpose and significance,research status,research scope and method.The second chapter is an introduction to Ouyang Xuan’s life and writings.The third chapter is Ouyang Xuan’s literary concept.Ouyang Xuan criticized the shortcomings of Song and Jin’s articles,advocated the retro elegant style of literature "Zongtang",and advocated that literature should carry Tao,which further integrated the relationship between literature and Taoism.Guided by the thoughts of Neo-Confucianism,he also proposed a literary creation theory of emphasizing affection and self-righteousness.The fourth chapter is the ideological content of Ouyang Xuan’s prose.Ouyang Xuan’s prose takes Confucian Taoism as its purpose,showing the ideological tendency of respecting Confucian Taoism and advocating Neo-Confucianism.The content of the article actively maintains the orthodoxy,and interprets the relationship between xinxing and the Tao of Heaven in Neo-Confucianism.Ouyang Xuan pays attention to people’s livelihood and education.In terms of people’s livelihood,he advocates respecting the heavens and being loyal,showing compassion to the people as aspirations,and carrying out the governance of the people.In terms of education,it encourages the establishment of schools,advocates the selection of scholars from schools,and advocates the teaching concept of learning from sages and learning from the right heart.In his prose,he praised moral role models and analyzed the relationship between morality and utility,reflecting the ethical and moral concept of honoring morality and depriving profit.The fifth chapter is the artistic features of Ouyang Xuan’s prose.Ouyang Xuan’s prose is novel in conception,exquisite in material selection and profound in meaning.In terms of narrative methods,there are many ways of combining direct narrative records and narrative discussions,which are good at reasoning and clear in structure.The style of prose imitates Ouyang Xiu,the language is elegant and upright,fresh and natural,and the style of writing is honest,quiet,deep and mellow,soothing and easy.In short,Ouyang Xuan’s prose has profound theoretical connotations and distinctive artistic features,and is a representative work of prosperous prose in the middle of the Yuan Dynasty.
