The preface and postscript are one of many literary genres in ancient China,where the ancients mostly explained the text,the purpose of the preface or the postscript,or the authors themselves.In terms of writing,order was valued.Since modern times,prefaces and postscripts have completed their modernization transformation.They are no longer regarded as a separate genre,but are classified as prose,literary criticism or practical writing.Their numbers are still considerable.And they make a difference in expressing authors’ literary views,constructing the image of writers,and playing an important role in writers’ social intercourse.Wang Zengqi wrote more than 70 prefaces and postscripts for himself or others in his life.They show his literary views,especially his notions of literary history and literary creation.They are also an important field for his literary criticism,and clearly reflect his style of “Impressionism” in literary criticism.In addition,in terms of function,the preface and postscript helps to build Wang Zengqi’s personal image,becoming a kind of "reading guide",and also assumes the function of making friends among the literati,from which we can see Wang Zengqi’s personal charisma and literary influence.With the context of the 1980 s and 1990 s,this dissertation will explain Wang Zengqi’s writing of preface and postscript from three aspects: the concept of creation in Wang Zengqi’s prefaces and postscripts,the preface and postscript as a kind of literary criticism,and the unique function of the preface and postscript as a style,and thus try hard to provide a new perspective of interpretation in study of Wang Zengqi.
