Being a lifelong expert in the field of short stories,Lin Jinlan is a seasoned writer with noteworthy accomplishments and insightful ideas. His extravagant and baseless style narrows the audience for his writing, which causes a profound but not particularly rich phenomenon in the related academic research. All of this demonstrates how much more work needs to be done on Lin Jinlan’s novels in terms of both investigation and evaluation of both their artistic and ideological merits. Therefore, from the perspective of space, this essay examines Lin Jinlan’s novel creation and literary ideas, and analyzes his shaping ways and evolution processes of different novel spaces, and studies the artistic creation of Lin Jinlan’s novels in a more systematical and comprehensive way by combining the author’s life course and ideological field. The first chapter takes "border" as the focus, connecting the novel creation of Lin Jinlan in two historical periods, and outlining the growth, maturity and variation of his novel geographical space.First to trace back to his novels of southwest frontier during the literature of the "Seventeen Years”.The dialogue relationships between the two discourses that represent the mainstream and the edge in the novel space are examined, while Lin Jinlan’s frontier consciousness is explored.Secondly, the essay takes the series of "Low Bench Bridge Style" as the object, exploring the internal relationship between the spatial characteristics of the "Low Bench Bridge" world created by Lin Jinlan and the local characteristics of Wenzhou people,so as to grasp the maturity of the author in the construction of geographical space. Finally,it outlines the variation of Lin Jinlan’s writing under the change of the times, and further shows the complex relationship between people and the times. The second chapter, titled "Labyrinth," examines how psychological space is created in books like Lin Jinlan’s "Ten Years" series. The psychological space of Lin Jinlan’s works, which span several eras, gives more attention to the historical influence than geographic space.Extremely significant roles are played by imagination and memory, and the novel’s structure is directly tied to their characteristics.Behind this, two important words—trauma and archives—reflect the inspiration behind Lin Jinlan’s psychological novels and specifically allude to the connection between the spiritual realm of humans and actual historical events. With "the crack" as a summary, the third chapter examines how Lin Jinlan’s novels’ historical settings are put together. The May 4th Movement’s intellectual consciousness and the unofficial historical spirit of classic note books serve as its cultural and spiritual foundations, which decides that Lin Jinlan should approach history from a human perspective.Second,Lin Jinlan’s historical space is a unique intersection point of its geographical space and psychological space, old and new, examine the present, and consider history in a disorganized figurative area. Finally,Lin Jinlan’s novel space’s dialectical spatial images of "door" and "crack" are employed to summarize the relationship between man and history, and interpret the debate over life and the artistic myth sparked by his writing in his later years.
