Doris Lessing(1919-present) is one of the most famous writers in the contemporary world literary arena.Her representative novel The Golden Notebook which published in 1962,due to it's innovation in structure and successful reflection of people's ethical and spiritual states in entire 1950s' modern society,is considered as a masterpiece in contemporary English literature, even in world literature.At the beginning of its publication,the book was misunderstood as a feminine masterpiece for its support of woman right.The author was actually trying to explore and open out the heroine Anna's inner world,to tell people how to coordinate diverse moral choices,and then create harmonious life and complete personalities.Nowadays,The Golden Notebook is still receiving readers' and critic's widespread attention,not only because of its artistic and cultural values,but also for its realistic enlightenment toward the modern society.This article mainly analyzes Anna's split moral selves and crack up as a result of multiply "Good" with the theories of moral space and self-approval which proposed by Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor.And draws support from Taylor's theories to explain energetic course that how Anna obtained complete moral selves by unifying the rationality and the non-rationality, the freedom and the fetter and so on,then initiates people to think about optimistic-like result of the novel and "Good",and help readers understand practical significance and social value of the novel radically.The main body of this thesis consists of five parts.The first chapter introduces The Golden Notebook and the domestic and foreign present research situation of it briefly.The second chapter takes the approval crisis of Western society as the background,analyzes Lessing's creation idea which insists that literature should solve "unclear" in morals.And introduces the theories of moral space and self-approval which proposed by Charles Taylor briefly.The third chapter utilizes Taylor's theory about moral roots to discuss how Anna absorbed multiply "Good",and then fell into crack up as a result of she couldn't coordinate them.The fourth chapter analyzes the course that Anna obtained dialectical total perspective and unified the rationality and the non-rationality,the freedom and the fetter and so on to find complete moral selves in detailThe fifth chapter takes thinking of "Good "and "ultra Good" as the foundation,analyzes the open-like result and summarizes distinctive quality of Lessing's creation.
