A Report On The Translation Of On The Come Up(Chapters 8-10)

This is a translation report based on the English novel On the Come Up(Chapters 8-10).The source text is written by American writer Angie Thomas,a former teenage rapper.Her works focus on exposing the problems faced by African Americans,trying to arouse people’s attention to their lives.The book mainly tells the story of how Bri,a sixteen-year-old girl from African American community,fights against all the difficulties she met in chasing her dream as a rapper before becoming successful.The report was prepared under the guidance of the Eco-translatology theory proposed by Professor Hu,and the application of the theory to the translation practice will be discussed from the perspective of "three-dimensional" transformation.In the source text,the protagonist comes from the African American background and the dialogues represent black culture and hip-hop culture.What’s more,in the text,there is much slang commonly used in American black society.Therefore,in the translation process,it is particularly important for the translator to convey the cultural and communicative connotation of the source text according to the translational eco-environment.Meanwhile,the linguistic feature of the target language is also a key consideration to make the translation natural.As a result,the translator chose the Eco-translatology as the guiding theory and its guiding role for this translation practice will be discussed in detail from the perspective of "three-dimensional" transformation,the three dimensions being linguistic,cultural,and communicative.At the same time,in each dimension,cases will be further classified according to different translation methods applied,source text and so on.Toward the end,the translator tried to make a systematic summary of this translation task and provide some suggestions for future translation activities concerned.
