This translation report is based on the E-C translation of selected chapters from the book Asian American Dream, written by Chinese-American writer Helen Zia.This translation report aims to study how to convey meanings accurately to target readers in different contexts of the source text, and to explore specific translation techniques with some examples. The translator uses the Register Theory to guide the entire translation practice.By using the Register Theory, the translator analyzes the context of the texts selected for translation from three perspectives: field of discourse, tenor of discourse, and mode of discourse. Then the translator comes up with translation solutions from the perspectives of these three variables. From the perspective of field discourse, the translator adopts the method of literal translation to retain the professional meaning of the certain field. From the perspective of tenor of discourse, the translator employs the free translation method,as well as the amplification method. And finally, during the study of the last variable, the translator uses the method of adaptation and interpretative translation.Through this discussion on the application of the Register Theory in the translation of Asian American Dream, the translator wishes that this translation report could be helpful for translating Asian-American literary works in terms of translation techniques.
