With the implementation of China’s strategy to build a well-off society and a healthy China, the construction and improvement of the medical system has become a social issue. In particular, the outbreak of Newcastle Pneumonia in 2020 has heightened people’s concern about their own health. As the "mirror of society" and the "hammer of society",documentaries play a pivotal role in reflecting social reality and responding to social concerns. In recent years,a number of documentaries reflecting the relationship between doctors and patients and the current state of medical care have emerged, showing to the public the operation and problems of China’s medical system in a particular period of time, and forming a communication landscape that goes hand in hand with other documentaries on the subject. The creation of documentaries on medical topics has gradually entered a period of prosperity. The prosperity of the industry has also led to enthusiasm for research on medical documentaries in the academia. How to evoke the empathy of the audience in the creation,so as to better convey the humanistic care and social values of medical documentaries is a question that literary artists need to think about.Based on the theory of empathetic communication, this article takes the creation of medical documentaries as the main subject of research, and combines the author’s graduation work,The Fight for Love,to explore the empathetic creation strategies of medical documentaries nowadays.Empathy, also translated as empathy or empathy, was first proposed and applied to psychotherapy by Rogers,an American humanist psychologist.Empathy allows us to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes and understand the other person’s emotional changes.According to some communication scholar, the transmission of empathy is not only between individuals but also between groups.Empathy is actually a process of passing content to the recipient, receiving, feedback, and sharing through the communicator’s selection, design, and planning. This kind of emotional awakening ability can also be used in documentaries.Through empathy, the creators establish emotional connection with the audience, which makes the audience more receptive to the core of value in documentaries and enhances their communication effect.According to the three elements of empathy communication,"viewpoint selection","emotional infection" and "empathy concern" are the core of this paper. The first chapter introduces the basic concept, mechanism and research status of empathy communication, and illustrates the relationship between empathy communication and documentary. The second chapter mainly analyzes the text construction of medical documentaries, including the analysis of topics, characters and narrative techniques to promote the audience’s "viewpoint selection".The third chapter focuses on the visual and audio language expression of medical documentaries, and analyzes how the creators use video to stimulate the audience’s senses and subtly convey their emotions to the audience,so that they experience emotions similar to those of the characters in the film, thus achieving the purpose of "emotional infection".The fourth chapter discusses the value presentation and social significance of medical documentaries from the perspective of altruistic behavior in empathy concern. The last chapter analyzes the negative effects of empathy fatigue on medical documentaries and summarizes some experiences in order to provide a new perspective for future medical documentaries. |
