In order to deepen the exchange and mutual understanding of civilizations and promote Chinese culture to the world, composers have been exploring and creating national, innovative and fusion music works with their own style characteristics. The orchestral piece "Tide" is the author’s graduation work.As a first explorer of orchestral composition, the piece incorporates pentatonic twelvetone sequences and mathematical harmonies based on traditional composing techniques, and has three characteristics of tradition, modernity and ethnicity. This thesis is divided into three chapters to analyze and summarize the composition techniques and internal logic of the work from two aspects: the musical structure characteristics and the acoustic structure of the work. The first chapter analyzes the musical structure of "Tides",including its compositional structure, thematic features, tonal layout and harmonic patterns. The first movement is a compound triad with a three-voice middle section, and the overall style is unified, showing the theme construction characteristics of the classical period;the second movement is an inverted recapitulation sonata with the principle of arch symmetry, and the main theme adopts the Indian Bhairav scale with Indian characteristic rhythmic patterns. The design of the sub-thematic sequences is based on the "Fu zeng" system proposed by Mr.Huang Xiangpeng, with a brief explanation of how the sequences are expressed in polyphonic weaving. The tonal layout is discussed separately in two directions, namely, compound tonality and the cycle of fifths. In the harmonic form, the use of the pentatonic sequence naturally presents the compound harmony of the fifths in the horizontal harmony;in addition,it also uses some of the mathematical characteristics such as equivalence and symmetry in the vertical "interval position" in the "interval position analysis".The analysis is divided into three parts: functional harmony, pure fifth complex harmony, and mathematical harmony. The second and third chapters focus on the analysis of the orchestral acoustic structure of the work. The second chapter starts from the homogeneous and heterogeneous weaving structures and discusses them separately: firstly, the homogeneous weaving structure with homogeneity is analyzed into the acoustic thinking of the unison and chordal weaving;secondly, the heterogeneous weaving structure with multi-level structure of the polyphonic weaving and the melodic and accompaniment dominant weaving The second chapter explores the acoustic thinking of polyphonic weaving and melodic and accompaniment in a heterogeneous structure, and delves into the design of foreground, middle ground and background. The third chapter explores the dramatic mood of "The waves come like snow, and the coldness of the sky" from the horizontal change of color and the sudden change of intensity.
