This paper takes Ottorino Respighi's symphonic poem The Pines of Rome as the research object and makes a comprehensive analysis of the work.Through the analysis this paper tries to extract,discuss and explore the sound color and space expression in The Pines of Rome.In the introduction,this paper summarizes the previous research on"chromaticity"and"spatiality" in the field of orchestration At the same time,this paper summarizes the research status of the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi,who interwoven romantic and impressionistic-techniques-in his works and choose his classic work The Pines of Rome,which has important significance in the history of orchestration,as the research object to point out the"color view" and "space view" contained in the orchestration method of this work,and propose the research method of this paper.In the first chapter,"Sound Color in Orchestration",this paper compare the technique of color expression in painting with that in orchestration,and discusses the music noumenon of The Pines of Rome through the principle of heteromorphism.Then I summarize and sort out the detailed embodiment of its sound color in timbre configuration and harmony connotation by using the color expression technique in painting art.At the same time,combining with the spectrum,this paper discusses with examples,aiming to explore Respighi's techniques and methods of rendering color sense in the orchestration and his hidden color view in his creation.In the second chapter,"spatial representation in orchestration",the author discusses the The Pines of Rome from the macroscopic and microscopic aspects of the space through the requirements of the three-dimensional space architecture.Macroscopically,it can be divided into horizontal dimensions----the organizational logic of the development of musical materials and vertical dimensions----the organizational form of the sound level and its quantitative movement in the third dimension.From the microscopic aspect,it is shown as:in each dimension of the first level,the second level space is embodied by multiple secondary dimensions,so as to achieve the crisscross multi-dimensional space performance.In the third chapter,"the 'combination' of color view and spatial logic in orchestration",the author explores the interaction between the two and the practical significance of orchestration by analyzing the relationship between color expression rules and spatial expression in The Pines of Rome.In the concluding part,the author summarizes this paper and the viewpoints formed on the basis of this paper,and explores the unique expressive force of the interaction between sound color and spatial expression in orchestration,and hopes to provide some references for the research of orchestration with the rule of color expression and the virtual space model.
