The new curriculum standard of high school English clearly states that it is necessary“to build a common foundation for high school English,meet the needs of the students’ individual development,adjust the curriculum structure and requirements,and achieve the goal of lightening the students’ workloads and increasing efficiency.As an extension of classroom teaching,homework is an important means to improve the quality of classroom teaching.In the past,the “one-size-fits-all” homework arrangement of education and teaching in China has failed to satisfy the effectiveness of homework.In order to guarantee students’ main status,promote their independent learning,and meet their needs of individual development,it is necessary to adjust the teaching methods,teaching approaches,and teaching concepts in a timely manner.And it is necessary to design teaching models that are suitable for students’ development,taking their different development levels and learning needs into account.Effective assignment design not only improves the quality of students’ learning,but also increases their motivation and initiative to complete the assignments.And there are numerous educational studies that show that the implementation of stratified homework has significantly improved students’ interest in learning,academic performance and independent learning ability.Therefore,this study will investigate the current situation of the stratified homework design and application of it in Wanzhou District,and try to find out the problems and propose strategies.The aim is to promote the effective implementation of stratified homework in high school English.This study is based on the two theories,that is,the theory of the nearest development zone,and the theory of multiple intelligences.And this study uses questionnaires and teacher interviews to gain an in-depth understanding of the current situation of the design and application of English homework and stratified homework in Wanzhou high schools.For example,most teachers have a superficial understanding of stratified homework,the criteria for stratified homework is too simple,the management of the students after stratified homework is insufficient,the levels of the students are not adjusted in time according to the development and changes of the students.And there is a lack of diversity in forms and innovation in contents,monotonous evaluation form and single evaluation subject and so on.In view of this,this study analyzes the causes of the problems in depth and puts forward optimization strategies for the design and implementation of English stratified homework.In response to the problems of stratified homework design,we should focus on changing the teachers’ traditional teaching concepts,scientifically and rationally stratify the students,treat the students with a developmental perspective,and pay attention to protecting students’ self-esteem.It is necessary to innovate the layered form of homework and pay attention to the development of students’ multiple intelligences.And it is important to improve the pertinence of stratified operation evaluation and enhance the diversity and scientificity of the evaluation system.
