Jean Sibelius(1865-1957)is a famous Finnish composer, musician, and one of the representative composers of the mid and late Romantic national music genre. His music reflects the fervent patriotism and strong national characteristics."Violin Concerto in D minor" was created at the request of Willy Bullmeister, the head of the Helsinki Orchestra,a admirer of composer Sibelius. The first draft was completed in 1903,but the initial performance achieved unsatisfactory results. After that,Sibelius revised it and completed it in 1905 with its premiere, the current popular version, which was a huge success. It embodies the characteristics of northern Europe, the personality of composers, and the style and charm of the Finnish nation. It is unique in the field of violin concertos. It is a classic of violin music and a challenge for violinists.Sibelius’ s "Violin Concerto in D minor" is the only violin concerto work that he has painstakingly created.During the creation of this work, the composer was already renowned worldwide for his "Finlandia" and "Symphony No.2",which belong to the works of the composer’s heyday, reflecting the style and distinctive personal characteristics of the late Romantic period. The music is full of Sibelius’ extensive knowledge and understanding of the violin as a musical instrument. The personal style of the main part of the violin is fully displayed, and includes various complex techniques. Therefore, this article will combine the different versions of three performers to visually analyze the performance audio, mainly analyzing the performance techniques of the works. The full text is divided into three chapters:The first chapter introduces the life and creative characteristics of composer Sibelius. The second chapter is an analysis of the musical ontology of Sibelius’ s Violin Concerto in D minor. This chapter will briefly elaborate on the musical framework and melody characteristics of the work through the analysis of the creative background of the work, the musical structure of the first movement, and the melody characteristics. The third chapter introduces the three performers selected in this article and the versions they play."And combined with three versions of recordings for music visualization,to analyze the performance techniques of Sibelius’ s Violin Concerto in D minor.".This chapter will analyze the work from the perspective of performance skills through the analysis of specific chapters and paragraphs and the comparison of recorded versions by different performers. This thesis hopes to combine theory and practice, not only to conduct a theoretical analysis of the musical ontology of the work, but also to combine the performance experience of the performer and the recordings of the performer to gain a deeper understanding of this work and the music of Sibelius, and also to serve as a reference for future performers.
