In recent years,a trend of modern retro music has gradually emerged, including the Grammynominated "An Evening With Silk Sonic" by Bruno Mars/Anderson Paak with a retro soul music style and "The Dawn" by The Weeknd with a retro City pop style, which has become one of the most popular music genres in Europe and America.Today, people often use the words "Vintage" and "Retro" to describe the elements of retro music."Vintage" refers to high-quality things from the past that have survived through the ages and retain the essence of the era, while "Retro" refers more to things from a specific era 20-30 years ago that are now being recreated in sound and emotional qualities. This article will use objective and subjective methods to compare data and sound, focusing on the mixing characteristics of representative works of modern music after the 70s-90 s and the 21 st century(referring to Billboard’s Top 10 chart over the years). It will combine analysis of existing literature, journals, and books with actual parameter measurements.By analyzing the hardware equipment, sampling rate, frequency spectrum distribution, dynamic range, reverberation color, sound field width, special modulation, loudness, and other effects available for reference,it will summarize the main factors that affect the mixing characteristics of retro music, and how to reproduce the sound quality standards of retro music in the modern production process, and how to differentiate modern music from retro music from a mixing perspective.
