With the strengthening of our internationalization, the role of English in the classroom becomes increasingly important.Reading is considered to be the most important part of English learning.English reading strategies have been one of the research topics for scholars.Cognitive style,as one of the many influencing factors, plays a key role in students’ English learning and teachers’ English teaching. However, there is not enough research on the correlation between students’ cognitive styles and English reading strategies, especially there is less research on junior high school students’ reflective/impulsive cognitive styles and English reading strategies. Therefore, this study looks at the relationship between students’ reflective/impulsive cognitive styles and English reading strategies in junior high school and explores the correlation between them.In this study, six classes in a junior high school in M city were selected as the study subjects. This study uses the quantitative research with two questionnaires(Reflective/Impulsive Cognitive Style Questionnaire;English Reading Strategies Questionnaire)to collect data. Then,it uses SPSS 26.0 for the analysis of the data. This study sought to address the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of the students’ reflective/impulsive cognitive styles and the application of English reading strategies in junior high school?(2)Is reflective cognitive style related to junior high school students’ English reading strategies, and if so,what are the correlations?(3)Is impulsive cognitive style related to junior high school students’ English reading strategies, and if so,what are the correlations? The following results are obtained from the analysis of this study:(1)Reflective/impulsive cognitive style is common among junior high school students. And the proportion of reflective cognitive style is larger, and the proportion of impulsive cognitive style is smaller. From the English Reading Strategies Questionnaire,it has been found that the frequency of English reading strategies used by junior high school students is medium, that is,students sometimes use English reading strategies in the reading process. The most commonly used are cognitive strategies, followed by metacognitive strategies, and social/affective strategies are the least used.(2)There is a strong correlation between reflective cognitive style and English reading strategies, with the strongest correlation in eighth grade, especially in metacognitive strategies.(3)There is no correlation between impulsive cognitive style and English reading strategies.Based on this study, this paper suggests that: teachers should pay attention to the learners’ differences and characteristics with different reflective/impulsive cognitive styles and teach them according to their individual differences. At the same time, teachers also have the responsibility to stimulate and enhance students’ awareness of using English reading strategies. This enables learner with reflective/impulsive cognitive style to use English reading strategies more appropriately according to their characteristics. Thus, they can achieve better reading results.
