| English vocabulary is the basis of learning English, and learning English vocabulary is closely related to memory. As a higher cognitive process, memory is influenced by cognitive mode. Therefore, this study uses two different ways of presenting English vocabulary as memory materials and uses task separation paradigm to investigate the effects of contemplative and impulsive cognitive styles on implicit and explicit memory in English vocabulary learning of middle school students.Firstly,25 meditative and 25 impulsive junior high school students were selected by matching similar graphics test. Both groups were then asked to complete two experiments. In the first experiment, task separation paradigm was used to explore the influence of cognitive style on implicit memory in English vocabulary learning of middle school students. In experiment 2,task separation paradigm was used to explore the influence of cognitive style on Chinese-foreign explicit memory in English vocabulary learning of middle school students.Research findings:(1)In implicit memory, the main effect of cognitive style is not significant, the main effect of lexical presentation is significant, and the interaction between cognitive style and lexical presentation is significant.(2)In explicit memory, the main effect of cognitive style is significant, the main effect of lexical presentation is significant, and the interaction between cognitive style and lexical presentation is not significant. The results of this study:(1)In implicit memory, the performance of meditative students in learning isolated vocabulary is higher than that of impulsive students.(2)In implicit memory, the performance of meditative students in learning contextual vocabulary is lower than that of impulsive students.(3)In explicit memory, the performance of meditative students was higher than that of impulsive students.(4)In explicit memory, students of the two cognitive styles had higher scores in learning contextual vocabulary than in learning isolated vocabulary.English vocabulary is the basis for middle school students to learn English. The conclusions of this study can provide effective Suggestions for teachers and students,so that students can adopt appropriate memory strategies by understandingtheir own cognitive styles. In this way,I can improve my vocabulary and lay a good foundation for further English learning. |
