Escher is an unusual artist in the 20 th century. His works are different from those of other artists of his time.He is called "unclassifiable painter".He has opened up a new aesthetic field, internalizing emotions under the rules, and his works are very logical, scientific and philosophical, perfectly showing the rational side of art.His work is admired not only by viewers and peers, but also by mathematicians, physicists and crystallographers.Escher constructed contradiction space through innovative perspective rules, spatial misconnection, coexistence of multiple worlds, and exchange of picture and ground to form paradox space, creating a three-dimensional world that only exists in a two-dimensional plane. He uses the guidance of visual direction to interact closely with the audience, leading the audience to swim in the world he creates, bringing the audience a strong sense of space reality, but also telling the audience that all these things cannot exist in the real world, causing the audience to rethink and understand the space in the real and unreal visual experience. This thesis will start with the formation of Escher’s artistic style and the classification of his works, take the features of Escher’s contradiction space as the research object, combine with my own practice in landscape painting creation, and try to draw lessons from the construction of Escher’s contradiction space in landscape painting creation, enlighten myself to think and create practice on the space expression form of Chinese landscape painting from multiple angles and directions, present a relatively novel visual space effect of landscape painting in the works, and create more works in line with the development requirements of The Times and the aesthetic needs of the public.
