During the period of French colonial rule in Vietnam,in order to establish the French Vietnamese colonial economy and control the financial and monetary systems of French Vietnam,France issued the French Vietnamese colonial currency,which was subordinate to the local currency of France.The establishment of the colonial currency system was mainly divided into four stages: The first stage: 1875,which was the period of lifetime copper coins,and mainly issued lifetime copper coins shipped from France to French Vietnam,This period is a trial release stage.The second stage:1879-1885,the period of French Jiaozhi coins,mainly issued a metal currency system consisting of silver coins and copper coins,which is the initial stage of development.The third stage: 1885-1945 is the coinage period of French Indian,which is composed of silver coins,copper coins,nickel coins,nickel copper alloy coins,zinc coins and paper notes.This period is a mature stage of development.The fourth stage:1945-1953 is the period of the federal currency of Federation of India,mainly composed of one set of coins and three sets of notes,which is a period of decline.The currency of French Vietnamese colonies is an aggressive,predatory,and coercive currency,which is an important means of French economic colonization of Vietnam.Its issuance and circulation have had an important impact on Vietnam’s monetary system,economic development,national independence,foreign relations,France’s colonial strategy,capital economy,international status,and many other aspects.The reasons why France issued currency in French Vietnamese colonies are as follows: firstly,currency is a manifestation of national authority.The issuance of currency in French Vietnamese colonies strengthened France’s colonial rule over Vietnam.Secondly,France relied on the currency of French Vietnamese colonies to further establish a colonial empire.Thirdly,France seized the market of French Vietnamese colonies by issuing currency.Fourthly,France incurred huge military expenses due to colonial expansion,and the French government adopted the method of issuing French Vietnamese colonial currency to obtain huge fiscal revenues in the short term.The issuance of currency in French Vietnamese colonies had a huge impact on both Vietnam and France.Firstly,it caused Vietnam to lose its national sovereignty and become an accessory of the French colonial rulers,seriously hindering the process of Vietnamese national prosperity.Secondly,it transformed the modern Vietnamese economy from a natural economic form to a colonial economic form,hindering the independent and independent development of the Vietnamese local economy.Thirdly,China’s currency culture has had an impact on Vietnam’s currency culture for thousands of years.The issuance of currency in French Vietnamese colonies separated China and Vietnam from the monetary field.Fourthly,it brought the Western monetary system to Vietnam,which led to its inclusion in the Western capitalist market.Fifthly,Vietnam’s colonial economy is closely linked to France’s domestic economy,and the French government has gained significant economic benefits.Sixth,the national currency is an important symbol of international status.The issuance of currency in French Vietnamese colonies has enhanced France’s international influence and status.Seventh,the issuance of French colonial currency allowed France to monopolize the market of French Vietnamese colonies,indirectly deepening the conflicts between European powers.
