Discrepancy Between Romanticization And Stigmatization Of Disease Metaphor

For a long time,diseases have been the object of biomedical attention,but there is an inseparable relationship between diseases and literature.The motif of disease in literature has a long history,and there are a large number of disease narratives in classic works in the history of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign literature.The mystery and supernatural nature of disease endow writers with imagination space,so disease is endowed with rich metaphors.Taking the metaphor of disease in literary works as the research object,this paper tries to analyze the romanticized writing and stigmatized metaphor of disease in literary works,and think about the differences between romanticized metaphor and stigmatized metaphor of disease and the reasons for this difference.The first chapter introduces the aesthetic writing of diseases in literary works,analyzes several manifestations of romantic writing of diseases through thinking about the beauty of illness,deformity and love,and thinks about the deep reasons why diseases are endowed with romantic metaphors from the perspectives of writers’ creative psychology and readers’ acceptance psychology.The second chapter analyzes the metaphors of war,politics,society,religion,culture and morality given to these diseases in literary works,and thinks about the reasons why these diseases are given stigma metaphors.The third chapter analyzes the differences of disease metaphors from different literary styles,different social cultures and different body feelings,thinking about different literary themes and different literary trends,different times and different regional cultures,as well as the sick experience brought by diseases and different body feelings brought by different diseases,and the reasons for this difference.Whether it is a physical disease or a psychological disease,it will cause both physical and mental harm to patients.In essence,literature’s concern about disease writing comes from the psychological reaction of individual life in the face of death and disintegration.Therefore,paying attention to disease writing and disease metaphor in literary works can make people turn their attention from the outside world to their own body and life,think about the meaning and value of life,and also make people feel the pain of the times and the crisis brought by modernity,so that readers can be alert and treated in the reading of disease writing.
