The narrative of the elderly is a type of literary work that depicts the living conditions and emotional life of the senior population. In the new century, with the increasingly severe aging situation, the elderly groups who were once sheltered and in a state of aphasia have also been increasingly displayed in literary imagination. The elderly are placed in the center of the vision in the text, transforming from the object serving as a foil to the subject, gradually breaking away from the symbolic representation of the grand narrative and returning to the personalized narrative of daily life, thus showing a brand new look. This thesis consists of three parts: introduction, text, and conclusion. The introduction discriminates and defines the concept of elderly narrative, briefly analyzes some characteristics of elderly writing before the 20 th century, and combs out the main points of the research related to elderly narrative in the new century literature. The main body is divided into three chapters. The first chapter focuses on the narrative theme, and explores the representation of diverse life landscapes for the elderly in the novel of the new century from three aspects: the physical and mental difficulties of the elderly, the deep understanding of the meaning of life, and the dialectical pluralism of intergenerational ethics. The second chapter discusses the artistic characteristics of the narrative of the elderly in the new century from two perspectives: the restrictive narrative perspective and the interlaced narrative time and space, and explores how different narrative subjects and retrospective narrative techniques construct the aesthetic connotation of the novel. At the same time, based on the discussion in the first two chapters, the thesis also focuses on the narrative works of the elderly in the vision of world literature and video media, and analyzes the shortcomings and limitations of the elderly narrative in the literature of the new century. The third chapter explores the possibility of constructing a poetic narrative of old age, starting with how the novel "Cards" conveys the daily flavor of old age life through lyrical prose and line drawing techniques.
