On The Adaptation Of Cao Yu's "Wilderness" By Sichuan Opera "Gold

As one of Cao Yu’s "Four Great Plays," Yuanye has been controversial since it was first published in 1926,and the first time it was brought to the stage in the form of a play was also met with a lukewarm reception.Over the years,it has been criticized by the academic community for its third act,which resembles the expressionist form of American playwright Eugene O’Neill’s The Emperor Jones,but in the past thirty years,the academic community has reassessed the artistic value of Yuanye,and some scholars have even defined it as realism.As a result,various adaptations of Yuanye have come and gone,not only in drama,film and television,but also in opera,dance and operetta,etc.Among the various adaptations of opera,the Sichuan opera Jinzi is one of the best versions.With the deepening of reform and opening up,Sichuan opera in the new era gradually fell into the predicament of losing audiences and failing to keep pace with the times.The storyline and characters have not been greatly changed,but the shift of the theme and the change of the first protagonist make Jinzi different from Yuanye to a great extent.Therefore,by using the comparative analysis method and combining the theoretical knowledge of comparative art,the narrative,imagery and language of Yuanye and Jinzi are compared and analyzed,from which we can see that Sichuan opera is a regional and contemporary re-creation of the drama script,its artistic and aesthetic value as well as the historical value of the times.In the twenty-first century,Sichuan opera is constantly learning from the strengths of various arts,innovating without losing its essence and tradition,and more and more excellent modern Sichuan operas are born,attracting people of all ages and social strata to enjoy them.The art of Sichuan opera will not fade away in time,and the Sichuan opera Jinzi is one of the leaders of this powerful proof.
