The Qing Dynasty was a period of great prosperity of the development of seal script, and the “Iron Line” seal script,as one of the representative seal script styles, has the artistic value of undertaking the“Jade Chopsticks” seal script in the Qin and Han Dynasties and opening the personalized seal script in the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods of the Qing Dynasty, and has become the main style of calligraphy in my literary creation. The thesis is mainly divided into the following four parts:firstly,it analyzes the origin of the calligraphy style of “Iron Line” seal script in the early Qing Dynasty, that is,“Iron Line” seal script originated from “Jade Chopsticks” seal script, and presents the characteristics of“slim” and “strength of calligraphic strokes” on the basis of the combination of early Calligraphers’ practice and theory,so that “Iron Line”seal script can also appear at the beginning;By the middle of the Qing Dynasty, due to the prevalence of Literary Inquisition, most calligraphers turned away from reality and turned to the study of exegesis and textual research for practical use, which nourished a group of calligraphers who specialized in imitating the font of Shuowen Jiezi(Analytical Dictionary of Characters)and focused on knowledge.During the Qianlong and Jiaqing in Qing dynasties, the social economy was prosperous and the Mufu Academic activities were popular. The large number of Zhongding Yi ware inscriptions provided by the Mufu Academic led to the continuous evolution of “Iron Line” seal script. The calligraphers widely imitated the Jijin characters of the three generations, and added the seal script and wide and flat official script of the Han Dynasty creating various forms. So far,the “Iron Line” seal script calligraphers have experienced the aesthetic evolution of subjective consciousness, and the personalized style of calligraphy has sprouted; However,at the end of the Qianlong and Jiaqing in Qing Dynasties, due to the one-sided and single imitation of antiquity, many innovations and changes were immature, which could not be compared with the personalized seal calligraphers who had become a fashion. At this time, the “Iron Line” seal script had to follow suit in shackles because of the lack of vitality for a long time;Until the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, represented by Wang Fuan and Zhao Shuru, with the help of the new carrier of seal cutting, the group of seal and calligraphers at this time was like a single spark, which was enough to start a prairie fire. They held high the flag of“Shuyin Xiangsheng”(Integration of calligraphy and seal cutting). The long silent “Iron Line” seal script coincided with a turning point, and was able to win a broader world in the calligraphy circle in the early Republic of China.Throughout the calligraphy circle of the Qing Dynasty,“Iron Line” seal script has experienced ups and downs in the phased development.Through combing the context and combining my copying and creative practice,I intend to find a calligraphy road suitable for my own development in the tracing and regeneration of “Iron Line” seal script.
