| Political authority(Zhengdao)and Governance(Zhidao)are two basic dimensions of Mencius’ political theory.The former refers to the value subject of the state and the source of power,which is mainly reflected in the relationship between the monarch and the people.The latter refers to the operation of realistic politics,specifically presented as the relationship between the monarch and the minister.Mencius’ view of "the monarch and the minister have righteousness" is to discuss the relationship between the emperor and the monarch from the dual perspective of political authority and governance,and then to discuss the way that the scholar and the official how to deal with advance and retreat,and the standard of the monarch and the minister,in order to reveal the whole picture of Mencius’ theory of the Monarch-ministers idea.Mencius "manner have righteousness" as basic ethical principles of interaction,which is not only the inheritance of Confucius’ s concept of "That the monarch deserves the name o f monarch,the minister deserves the name of minister",but also rich in the unique spirit of The Times.First of all,"righteousness" originally comes from Benevolence,appearance from Rite.This makes the connotation of "the monarch and the minister have righteousness" have the double meaning of Rite and Benevolence,that is,only in the context of both Rite and Benevolence,the monarch and the minister can be Harmony.Secondly,there are various ways to right the king’s wrongs.In many forms of expression,Mencius actually contains his thoughts on the source of political legitimacy and the transfer of power.In order to realize the ideal goal of benevolent government,we should also pay attention to the way of mobility and flexibility,which involves the Mencius thought the theory of regularity and flexibility,education,the view of the time-dependent mean and human nature and so on.Monarch-Subject Thought of Mencius,it shows the division and game between the teacher and the royal power.On the one hand,the teacher restricted and standardized the royal power;On the other hand,the realization of the doctrine of teachers depended on the support of the monarch.The relationship between them implies that the final result can only be: the royal power replaced the teacher and Taoism,and the political system suppressed Taoism.This result does not mean that Mencius’ Monarch-Subject Thought is not effective.On the contrary,it greatly encouraged the spirit of the scholars,laid a foundation for the standardization of the relationship between the monarch and the minister in the later generations,and also planted seeds for the system of Jingyan lecturing and the new monarch’s learning in the Song Dynasty. |
